Discipleship Series Theme: Listening to the Words of Jesus
Series Question: What did Jesus really say?
Today’s Message: The Kingdom of God is Our Message, Our Prayer and Our Victory
Today’s Text: Matthew 4:17 (3:1,2;10:7), 23(9:35); (5:3,10)6:9,10,32,33
Who is on the throne of your life? Who (or what) rules your life?
There is a constant war and conflict in our lives over who or what will rule. Whatever is on the throne is god and king of my life. It rules, it controls, it dictates. Note that the throne of our life was created for Christ and until He is on the throne, our life is in chaos and conflict.
Today’s question is, who is on the throne of my life?

Today’s Message: To see our acceptance, our blessing, our brokenness and our usefulness in the hands of Jesus.
Today’s Text: Luke 22:19; 9:16 and 24:30
What’s in your hands?
What is in the hands of Jesus?
Have I put what’s in my hands into the hands of Jesus?
In the hands of Jesus there are four very significant things that happen with bread — He takes it, He blesses it, He breaks it and He gives it! (with credit to Four Words, a teaching by Henri Nouwen) Pastor Barry teaches and challenges us to see our acceptance, blessing, brokenness and usefulness in the hands of Jesus.

Discipleship Series Theme: Listening to the Words of Jesus
Series Question: What did Jesus really say?
Today’s Message: The secret of a disciple (ie. christian) is to experience Jesus’ secret of the presence and pleasure of our Father.
Today’s Text: Matthew 5:16,44,45,48; 6:1-4,6-10,14,15,17,18,25,26,31-33
We all have a secret! Pastor Barry teaches us that Jesus in this text seems to be saying, “The secret life you have with your Father is the real unseen life behind everything that is seen.” For the follower of Jesus, the real life is always more important than the show. Who you are in secret is who you really are – that’s the real you! The question we must ask ourselves is, is my heavenly Father the unseen secret of my life?

Today’s Question: Where do you need to have a win in your life today?
Today’s Text: 1 Corinthians 15:25-27a,51-58
Listen to Pastor Barry’s message about winning: We all love to win! Something in all of us that says I’ve got to win!
Christ died, Christ was buried and Christ arose on the third day! This is our victory! THIS IS OUR BIG WIN!
And if this is not our message, then our “faith is futile” and we are a pretty miserable bunch of losers!

Today’s Message: The Making of a Disciple — The formula: i+a+p=d
Jesus’ identity + Jesus’ authority + Jesus’ presence = a disciple!
Today’s Text: Matthew 28:16-20
Due to a technical glitch, the first few minutes of the sermon were missed from the audio recording. Here is a summation of the first few minutes.
This week, Pastor Barry introduced us to the new series on Discipleship. He started off by asking us, “Do you like Jesus?” (Of course we do!) Then he asked us if we like the words of Jesus. (Yes, we do…Jesus says some really wonderful things “Come to me all who are burdened…and I will give you rest.” “Father forgive them, they don’t know what they are doing.” “I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” and more…)
Then Ps Barry asked us if we like EVERYTHING Jesus says!! (…There were some delayed, reluctant responses here…
…)
We can be pretty selective about the words of Jesus. We pick and choose the ones we like, but what about ALL the words of Jesus? We really like Jesus but, honestly, He says some very difficult, tough, even apparently impossible things! For example the series theme verses:
“Then Jesus came to them and said, `All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
— Matthew 28:18-20 (emphases added)
We say to ourselves, “But I can’t make anyone do anything! Sometimes not even myself!?”
The saying goes, “You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink; you can send kids to school but you can’t make them think.” You can bring people (husband, wife, kid) to church but you can’t make them disciples! We need Jesus’ help here!
Today’s Message: The Making of a Disciple — The formula: i+a+p=d
Jesus’ identity + Jesus’ authority + Jesus’ presence = a disciple!
But note that Jesus is the disciple maker – we are disciples of the disciple maker!
Today’s Text: Matthew 28:16-20 … the recording starts with Ps. Barry explaining the context and the situation coming into these verses.

Unfortunately, a technical glitch kept us from recording the audio for this message from Ps Barry about our Kingsway Church core value: that we are a people committed to missions. Ps Barry’s main message was “Our Mission is God’s Mission, Our Message is God’s Message, and Our Method is God’s Method”. Be sure to read this month’s KingswayLife Newsletter because its focus is the same as Ps Barry’s message – MISSIONS. You can also view/download the Sermon Guide here for further personal study.
